Exhibition Openings: Frank Stella and Genesis Belanger

Sunday, May 17, 2020, 3 pm to 5 pm

Free admission; RSVP requested to Jamie Pearl at jpearl@aldrichart.org

Join us to celebrate the openings of two exhibitions, Frank Stella’s Stars, A Survey and Genesis Belanger.

Spanning the Sculpture Garden and galleries, Frank Stella’s Stars, A Survey traces Stella’s singular use of the star, standing out as a stable and immediately identifiable shape in the midst of a complex tangle of abstract, invented forms that the artist has utilized over his long career. The historical arc of Stella’s use of the form travels from minimal (the early star paintings) to the maximal, with the recent star sculptures frequently exhibiting a corruption of the form as well as a diversity of materials and fabrication techniques.

Genesis Belanger’s first major solo museum exhibition will debut a new body of work specially conceived for The Aldrich. Belanger’s sculptures and tableaux, primarily composed of porcelain, stoneware, and upholstery, are outwardly expressive, objects we commonly wear, use, or consume pose demonstrative human attributes and embody conditions that channel our self-possessed present.

Valencia Luncheria, one of Fairfield County’s favorite food trucks, will be on site serving food for purchase. Donation-only wine and beer will be available.

There will be shuttles running to/from the Katonah Metro North station for the opening reception. Details on tickets and timing to follow. Contact Emily Devoe at edevoe@aldrichart.org for more information.
