Art on Site: Alzheimers Communities
Groups of eight to ten residents from senior living communities, along with two or three of the communities staff members, attend monthly lesson-based visits to The Aldrichs exhibitions. Each lesson involves both viewing and creating art. Residents, along with their assistants, participate in brief discussions on one of the exhibitions on view, led by educators and Museum docents, followed by a hands-on art project. On each visit, the group focuses on a new exhibition or a different artists work from a group presentation. When appropriate, we introduce materials that enable residents to experience the exhibition through touch, to provide a more intimate relationship to the work.
