The Aldrich's Six-Exhibition-Opening a Big Success

March 2007

Attendance soared at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum's six-exhibition debut on Sunday, March 11, 2006. Some 750 guests visited the Aldrich—including a bus load of New Yorkers.

Visitors came early to attend a Panel Discussion, Hearing Art: Three Perspectives on Art and Sound, moderated by Aldrich exhibitions director Richard Klein with artists David Abir, Elana Herzog, and Michael Schumacher. Michael Wilson, associate editor at Artforum, commented, “The sound art panel discussion was a particular pleasure; one of the most focused and intelligent events of its kind that I’ve attended in a long time.”

Guests at the opening enjoyed meeting artists and curators, touring the exhibitions, and refreshments. The well-received new exhibitions are The Photograph as Canvas (on view through June 10, 2007); David Abir: Tekrar (on view through August 12, 2007); W(E)AVE: Elana Herzog and Michael Schumacher (on view through August 12, 2007); Kysa Johnson: Blow Ups—Spores, Pollen, and Pollutants  (on view through June 10, 2007); Arturo Herrera: Castles, Dwarfs, and Happychaps (on view through September 2, 2007); and Dario Robleto: Chrysanthemum Anthems (on view through June 17, 2007).

The opening was generously sponsored by WSHU Public Radio.
