"Brian Pilliod and I had been talking about doing a woodcut for some time. When the opportunity came to make the edition an idea that I first had years ago bubbled up: a soccer ball and snowman in a birch forest. After seeing the image, Brian had the great idea of using a Japanese paper. I think that that choice really gives the edition a conceptual freshness: a forest scene, carved from wood, printed into a nearly translucent material. I like that while considering the flurry of marks one literally looks through the print." —Todd Hebert
