The recipient of the 1997 Aldrich Emerging Artist Award, Roxy Paine has had solo exhibitions throughout Europe and the U.S. His work has been included in major group exhibitions and reviewed in numerous prominent art publications. Paine goes to great lengths to create convincing reproductions of fungi and other plants from polymer, oil paint, epoxy, and other man-made materials. His unsentimental exploration of growth and change in nature is consistently intellectually stimulating and painstakingly crafted. Paine's Fecund is the first of a series of Aldrich Editions to be published in collaboration with a prominent artist and Dieu Donné, the nonprofit arts organization in New York City dedicated to advancing the art of hand papermaking. Paine's work was included in the Aldrich exhibition Early Acclaim: Emerging Artist Award Recipients 1997 – 2001.
